It's the end of an era. Legendary skate punk bohemian watering hole Max Fish is moving out of its LES digs and heading for the Great Valley (Williamsburg). The Lo Down first reported the online petition declaring the bar's intention to abandon its historic roots at 178 Ludlow Street:

The Lower East Side institution and cultural icon Max Fish will be moving. We are seeking a 2pm - 4am liquor license for the following address: 132 Metropolitan Ave., Brooklyn, NY… If you’ve enjoyed time at The Fish please sign and share this petition. And if you live or know anyone that lives within 500 Feet of either132 Metropolitan Ave or 99 North 1st St in Brooklyn, please contact me directly at: [email protected]. Thanks for your support.

Could this be a cruel hoax? The place was supposedly set to shutter back in 2010 due to landlord issues, but lo and behold, it kept on kicking, or flopping or whatever. Other questions: Why those specific addresses? Why does a business require a petition to move?

We've reached out to Max Fish management for more details on this perplexing development, and believe us, this story will be updated when we know more.
