The Freshman 15 at Yale is going to go up a few pounds next year. Today Union Square Hospitality announced that the next Shake Shack in the pipeline will be opening a smidge outside of NYC's borders, hitting up New Haven, Connecticut, this fall. Naturally, the new Shack'll be kitty-corner to Yale's Old Campus.
"New Haven is a city that we find fascinating because it seems like Yale and other members of the community have done so much to really build a renaissance with culture, with art and with commerce, and that’s something that we love," Danny Meyer said of the news. "We really want to make Shake Shack feel like it’s part of New Haven and part of Yale—not something imposed upon either of those" and hopes students will work there. Also, Meyer's daughter goes to school there.
With locations now all over our fair metropolis, as well as in Saratoga, Westport, Miami, Washington DC and Dubai, Shake Shack really has grown above and beyond what most people were expecting when it opened its first stand in Madison Square Park in 2004. The key now is clearly keeping things consistent—something the Times thinks they are already having problems with.
