Pupusa-lovers citywide can breathe a sigh of relief with news that the incredible food vendors who populate the Red Hook ballfields will definitely return this summer. The Red Hook Food Vendors confirmed they'll open for this season on April 26th, the 40th year they've served up Mexican, Guatamalan and other Latin American fare at the soccer fields and park on Clinton and Bay Streets in Brooklyn, reports amNewYork. These guys were selling mobile plates of food in the borough long before it was cool.

There was a truly terrifying time last year when vendors revealed they might leave their longtime home due to increased operation costs. Luckily the group has successfully renewed its permit with the Parks Department to operate on the site for another six years and have further plans to operate a year-round outpost as part of a collaboration with the Moore Street Market in Williamsburg. Part of that plan: new vendors. “We’re trying to become more inclusive and stay relevant,” executive director Cesar Fuentes told amNewYork. “We want to start enrolling the new generation of Red Hook Food Vendors.”

It's wonderful news for the vendors, of course, who are expected to launch a new website later this month. It's also great news for the dedicated fans who trek out each season to sample the goods; vendor El Olomega was also recently awarded top prize at 2013's Vendy Awards. The full vendor lineup will likely come with the website launch; expect past favs like El Olomega and The Country Boys plus some fresh faces "not limited to Latin American cuisine."
