Pinkberry will at last open its long-promised DUMBO outpost this very Thursday. Fro-yo fanatics have been hungrily anticipating the arrival of the chain's newest location at 117 Front Street since last August, though its expected October opening came and went without so much as a murmur.
The store's arrival represents an interesting shift in practice for building owner Two Trees Management Company, which harbors notorious distaste for leasing to chains (an exception being fancy furniture purveyor West Elm, which boasts 38 stores nationwide but does have has its corporate offices in DUMBO.)
DUMBO denizens may find themselves with mixed feelings about the eatery, which on the one hand will quiet the insatiable hunger known among medical professionals as "Fro-Yo Lust," while at the same time blighting a neighborhood that prides itself on its independent food offerings. Or, as one disgruntled resident put it to Grub Street in January: "The neighborhood officially just went to hell!"
The Front Street store will be Pinkberry's second location in Brooklyn and 16th in all of New York City.
