(Gothamist/Elyssa Goldberg)

Bingsoo at Cafe Ele (formerly Cafe Muse):When sprinkles just aren't enough, go for the Bingsoo at this K-Town favorite, an extravagant, heaping bowl of shaved ice topped with red bean, fruit cocktail, strawberries, corn flakes (!), mochi bits, blueberries, bananas, green tea ice cream, whipped cream, cherries, matcha powder, and, like great sugary antennas reaching to sky, two sticks of Pocky. Whew. Bring a friend if you intend to make a dent in the thing.

43 W 32nd St, (212) 290-1414
(Gothamist/ Elyssa Goldberg)

Avocado shake at Nha Trang:Can't handle the epic lines at Shake Shack? Head down to Chinatown for this Vietnamese drink, an insanely rich blend of avocado and sweetened condensed milk, served ice-cold with a jumbo straw, because it's that thick. It's sweet but not overly so, and a refreshing break from the strange summertime smells of Canal Street. Don't be freaked out by the prospect of avocado in a milkshakeâjust enjoy it.87 Baxter Street, 212-233-5948
(Flickr user nycblondieandbrownie)

Soft Serve at Momofuku Milk Bar At this point praising Christina Tosi's desserts at Momofuku Milk Bar (whose Brooklyn storefront has just expanded and reopened) is almost cliche, but what can you do? They are that good. And with the weather sizzling hot, what better way to cool off than with one of Momo Milk Bar's delicious soft serve ice creams with some of their many tasty toppings. The cereal milk flavor always seems to catch our eye, but a Graham cracker soft serve sundae is looking pretty good right now. Not feeling like ice cream? The served-cold Crack pie never disappoints. Gelato Pops at popbar:
Gelato! On a stick!? Find this genius concoction (plus sorbettos and yogurts on a stick) at West Village dessert emporium popbar, in flavors like dark chocolate-pistachio and raspberry mint.

5 Carmine Street, (212) 255-4874

Or, if you're more of the DIY kind, make your own pops! Pick up cute molds, in shapes like rocketships and stars, at Williamsburg's Whisk, and mix up a batch of pretty much any liquid combination that you please. (Note: bear in mind that alcohol typically doesn't freeze in home freezers.) Here's our recipe for minted Arnold Palmer pops, refreshment guaranteed.

Mix 1 gallon of mint black tea,

1 cup fresh lemon juice,

1/2 cup simple syrup (made from dissolving sugar in boiling water), and

zest of 2 lemons.

Pour into molds and freeze

Coolhaus: There's nothing novel about an ice cream sandwich, but this isn't just any ice cream sandwichâthis is a Coolhaus sandwich. The wildly popular west coast ice cream truck has just made its NYC debut, so it's new to us! Coolhaus specializes in homemade and all-natural ice cream, served between two delicious cookies and an edible wrapper. Their flavors are certainly unorthodox: Dirty Mint Chip, anyone? Brown Butter with Candied Bacon? Lychee Martini? Or perhaps the Basamic Fig & Mascarpone?! Coolhaus also has seasonal flavors, and we can only assume the White Russian variety is wintertime only. But that's just, like, our opinion, man. Follow Coolhaus on Twitter for their locations; most days you'll be able to find them at the new Lot at 30th Street, under the High Line, where crazy candy colored inflatable madness awaits!
