Eat Cetera: DIY Lamb, Free Grimaldi's, BBQ Cooking Class

The lamb shoulder and pickled onion at Back Forty

Lamb Demo: East Village farm-to-table restaurant Back Forty is really bringing the farm to your table on Saturday, when Chef Shanna Pacifico will conduct a lamb butchering demo. You'll not only learn the probably useless (but you never know) ways in which you can butcher a lamb, but Pacifico will also share lots of tips on how best to prepare different cuts. Once the class is over, students will repair to the dining room to enjoy a four-course, family-style dinner featuring dishes such as Lamb Kibbe Tartare, Smoked Lamb Croquettes, Ancho Pepper Roasted Lamb Shoulder and Herb Marinated Bone-In Leg of Lamb.

The demonstration starts at 3:30 p.m. and lasts until 6 p.m., with the "feast" lasting until 8. The whole thing costs $130 and includes food, beverages, tax and tip.

190 Avenue B, at 12th Street; call (212) 388-1990 for reservations.

Grimaldi's Limelight Marketplace: After countless delays that may or may night have to do with their ongoing legal troubles, Grimaldi's is finally poised to open its long-anticipated location in the Limelight Marketplace. An employee at the pizzeria's Brooklyn location tells us they hope to start serving pizza in Manhattan for the first time next week, but a tipster writes in to say, "So I work at one of the retail shops at the Limelight and I just wanted to give you guys the heads up that Grimaldi's is 'seasoning the oven' here at Limelight all week, which means they bake pizzas and then hand out the slices 'fo free out to shoppers browsing the market. (It's something to do with with getting the inside of the oven seasoned?) If you come through this week, you can definitely get a preview." Even if you think Grimaldi's is a tad overrated (which is probably is), nothing beats free pizza.

Limelight Marketplace; 656 Sixth Avenue

Wildwood BBQ Class: Lamb butchery isn't the only carniverous cooking event this weekend; with an eye on Super Bowl consumption, Wildwood Barbeque is hosting a "Tailgating Cooking Class" with pitmaster "Big" Lou Elrose, a former NYPD motorcycle cop who makes a mean hand-rubbed beef brisket. For $75 (tax and tip not included), Elrose will show you how to make his delicious smoked pork butt and spare ribs on your grill at home. The pedagogical portion of the event, which includes recipes, will be followed by a pulled pork and rib lunch, accompanied by sides of baked beans, coleslaw and cornbread, as well as beer pairings.

225 Park Ave South at 18th Street; call (212) 331-0328 or e-mail [email protected] to book a spot.
