Earth Day Eating Specials (Like Free Starbucks Coffee)

CRUMBS Bake Shop: Any effort to save the environment <strike>could</strike> must involve cupcakes, right? CRUMBS will be showcasing a Green Tea cupcake in honor of its mission for a sustainable future that includes initiatives like, "sourcing local ingredients, using eco-friendly packaging, and sharing energy efficient baking tips on crumbs.com."

As for details about the Green Tea cupcake itself, at $3.75 a piece you get "decadent sponge cake infused with green tea, garnished with green tea flavored cream cheese filling and frosting and adorned with cake crumbs topping and sanding sugar decoration."

2 Park Avenue between 32nd and 33rd Street, (212) 696-9300

Starbucks: Bring in any reusable mug or travel container to a "participating" Starbucks until 9 p.m. today and get a cup of coffee or tea—hot or iced—on the house. If you don't have a reusable mug, they're selling theirs for 20% off today. (Or you can order your free beverage "for here" and drink it at Starbucks in one of their mugs!) The ubiquitous coffee company says, "In 2010, people brought their own tumblers into our stores more than 32 million times, keeping nearly 1.45 million pounds of paper out of landfills."

Cadaqués: Good old fashioned romance doubles up as environmentalism at Cadaqués for a special "Lights Out" dinner, where patrons are asked to bring candles and votives to emphasize the need to conserve energy. In addition to the usual a la carte menu, guests can enjoy a special vegetarian 3-course tasting menu crafted by Executive Chef Guillaume Thivet. For $35, it comes with a glass of wine and a choice between Fideua Pasta with Ramp Pestoor or Homemade Vegetarian Gnocchi as entrée. If you're around for happy hour between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., try their new DAILY special: $14 all-you-can-eat mussels with a glass of white wine!

188 Grand Street, Williamsburg. Katie Sokoler/Gothamist

Eataly: Earth Day isn't something Mario Batali is taking lightly. His wildly successful re-store-aunt (and soon-to-be roof top beer garden) Eataly is teaming up with 19 local producers who will offer complimentary tastings of sustainable products, including "Mecox Dairy, Wellfleet Oysters, Sweet Grass Dairy, Salumeria Biellese, Acme Smoked Fish, Salvatore Brooklyn, and Baldor."

Each of Eataly's restaurants will feature special Earth Day dishes, which "combines the best of artisanal Italian products with local produce from Rick Bishop of Mountain Sweet Berry Farm." At the formal Manzo restaurant, they're offering a 6-course "Degustazione of New York Whey Fed Whole Hog" for $75. For something less thorough, try the $23 Local Rainbow Trout with Ramps at Il Pesce or $17 Trofie with Pesto Genovese and Heirloom Potato at La Pasta.

200 5th Avenue, (646) 398-5100

Pine Box Rock Shop: ImpactDash, an online resource "for individuals looking to take that first green step," is hosting a slightly belated Earth Day pop-up market at the Pine Box Rock Shop in Bushwick on Saturday. Come check out local vendors, like "CoreyBelle Soups, Green Mountain Energy Company and Sprout Wellness Skincare," between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The venue is already sustainably-minded, with its recycled glass light jar fixtures, reclaimed wood, vegan-friendly cuisine and love for local beer, which will be a $1 off the regular price for the night like all of the 16 beers on tap. Other specials include $3 well drinks and $5 ImpactDash cocktails. 12 Grattan Street, Bushwick
