Citi Field Food Choices Unveiled

The new playing field.

The ShakeBurger (pictured here) will cost $5.75 at Citi Field, $1 more than in Madison Square Park or at ShakeShack UWS. As a concession, Meyer offered up a promise that the lines at Citi Field will move much faster than those back in Manhattan. A ShakeBurger competitor, the Brooklyn Burger, was also unveiled today. It’s a beef patty served at on Martin’s potato roll with dill pickle, cheddar cheese, and Russian dressing.

It’s no Filet o’ Fish, but in the best possible way: Dave Pasternack’s Catch of the Day is one of the few concepts at Citi Field that will actually feature a large amount of local product. Here is the chef’s flounder sandwich; the flounder comes from Long Island. It’s breaded and fried, and served with lemon and tartar on a brioche bun. Simple yet effective. Clams in Pasternack’s clam chowder are also from Long Island.

Fries and dipping sauces from Box Frites, a Belgian frites place operated by Union Square Hospitality Group. Blue Smoke, USHG’s barbecue restaurant, will sell pulled pork sandwiches for $9, Kansas City ribs for $10, and chipotle chicken wings for $8.

“I realized that I cooked at Shea in 1989, for the Rolling Stones concert,” said Drew Nieporent. Here Nieporent points out some of the food that will be available at Acela restaurant, which is named for the Amtrak train.

Danny Meyer spoke of the chicken mole tacos with pipian, to be served at Floyd Cardoz’ El Verano Taqueria as perhaps his favorite item amongst all of the other choices offered by the various Taste of the City. Here’s the skirt steak taco from El Verano Taqueria. One taco is $7.35, but a combo plate is $9.75

The view from Acela restaurant. The place is a full service restaurant with pizza ovens and a full kitchen serving food Drew Nieporent says will be like that served at Tribeca Grill. Acela will also sell spit-roasted porchetta around the clock, served with sauerkraut and pierogis. “You order that and you’re set,” said Mr. Nieporent.

Along side Shea-stalwarts Mama’s of Corona, Daruma of Tokyo will offer sushi at a corner food court called “World’s Fare Market,” located Field Level in right field.

Floyd Cardoz is also a diehard Mets fan.
