A radio station-sponsored booze cruise on the East River broke down after midnight this morning, putting an abrupt end to the danceathon and leaving hundreds of revelers stranded and upset.
The 275 passengers had each paid $35-50 to for the "Fiesta En Barco 3" party, sponsored by 97.9 FM La Mega, which featured music from DJ Alex Sensation and Xstasys, among others. After a three hour delay in departure time from the Skyport Marina on East 23rd St, the boat finally took off around 9 p.m., and all was running smoothly until it passed under the Williamsburg Bridge about an hour later, and promptly lost all power and lights. "We were having a great time till everything went dark and silent," said one guest. Or was this just another case of a party boat standing in solidarity with her enslavement-escaping party boat brethren?
The Coast Guard finally towed the drifting boat to shore at around 1:30 a.m. this morning. Passengers were given a voucher for a free trip aboard a future party boat, because there are surely many customers eager to repeat the experience of being stuck on a powerless party boat under the Williamsburg Bridge in the middle of the night.
