Yesterday the internet fell in love with this pizza eating goat spotted dining inside of Famiglia's pizza joint in midtown. While little was known about the animal at the time, some new information has surfaced on Pizza Goat, and it turns out this unusual lady is not a New Yorker... she's a bridge & tunnel goat!
Daily Intel traced the goat, named Cocoa (we're assuming it's a girl) back to New Jersey after a trip down the internet wormhole produced a lot of information, and even some YouTube videos of her in Times Square (which you can watch below). The goat and her human, named Cyrus, are apparently "a well-known pair in Summit, New Jersey," and as one resident of the state once told the Newark Star-Ledger, "She’s a little celebrity." And guess who said that... the owner of a pizza restaurant who sometimes gives her food. Maybe Cocoa has been coming to New York in search of some real pizza? TBD!
The two were given some ink by the Summit Patch, as well, in a story titled The Dude With The Goat. This was published in September 2011, and apparently at the time there was a rumor that Cocoa was pregnant, which would confirm our belief she's a she. And the duo has even gotten more national attention—as Intel points out, they appeared on Good Morning America two years ago (sort of), when Cocoa was spotted in the crowd outside. At the time, weatherman Sam Champion Tweeted this photo, where you can see Cocoa's head in the back of the crowd.
We'll update if we hear back from Cocoa's owner Cyrus, and we'll try to get her review of Famiglia's pizza.
