Mulberry Street bar, open since 1908 and "Home of The Sopranos," has reportedly been closed by the Health Department because a "temporary license it was operating under since Dec has expired." NewYorkist posted this picture of the bar on Twitter. However, according to one employee, it's just temporary!
The employee, who declined to give his name, told us, "We're just closed for renovations." When we asked about the expired permits, he said, "Yeah, we're redoing all the permits. We're reopening on Monday." The Health Department website mentions nothing about expired permits, but says they were closed due to violations like, "raw, cooked or prepared food is adulterated, contaminated, cross-contaminated, or not discarded in accordance with HACCP plan" and, "evidence of mice or live mice present in facility's food and/or non-food areas."
