Max Fish died in July, blew off its own Resurrection, and may now inhabit the husk of Gallery Bar. New York Nightlife tweeted the rumor and EVGrieve points convincingly to April's CB3 SLA agenda, in which Ulli Bar Corp (Fish's beloved owner is Ulli Rimkus) is applying for a license at 120 Orchard Street.
Bowery Boogie reported last month that Gallery Bar owes the landlord at 120 Orchard $244,461 in back rent and utilities. Their rent was $17,107/month, just $2,900 shy of the $20K Max Fish's old landlord offered for the bar to stay at 178 Ludlow, where it had sat for 24 years. Presumably they'd go lower for a solid tenant with steady clientele like the Fish but then again, there's always another dreamer out there with a "can't fail" tapas concept and a bank loan.
Will CB3 give the green light? Will PBRs still be $3? Will we ever leave our apartment?
