Yesterday, Deadspin had some fun seeing how many hot New York City restaurants are falling over themselves to serve linternational Knicks sensation Jeremy Lin. And since the Knicks had a night off, it turns out Lin actually was looking for somewhere to eat. Except he didn't end up going to The Lion or Nobu—he and Landry Fields dined at Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse. "He and Landry Fields walked right by our table at Del Friscos as the entire upstairs cheered for him. The staff was as giddy as everyone else. Good moment," a reader told Deadspin.
And we get the feeling that he probably didn't drink much there. After the team's win over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday, Lin celebrated his father Gie-Ming’s birthday with his mom, Shirley, at Valbella on West 13th Street according to the Post. Lin, Fields and Jared Jeffries headed to Avenue afterwards, where Lin sipped from a Bud Light all evening despite the club sending over six bottles of Champagne. He eventually escaped the bar by 2 a.m., avoiding paparazzi and several female fans.
But Linatics around the city aren't being so chaste with their drinking when they go out to watch Knicks games. “Being behind the bar, we definitely see a big increase in the amount of people who are coming to the bar to watch the Knicks, as to who had previously come,” Eric Starr, who works at the Gin Mill on the Upper West Side, told DNAInfo. With the MSG/Time Warner Cable dispute still continuing, sports bars around the city are getting much needed boosts thanks to the Linsanity.
“Some people are coming because of [the blackout], and people are also coming because they want to go to a bar with their friends and watch the game,” Starr added. “Its good—let’s keep the blackout going.” Tonight will likely be no different—the Knicks/New Orleans Hornets game is only showing on MSG (unless ESPN suddenly bumps Dallas/Philly). If you do want to catch the game, here are some tips as to where you can watch.
