There's nothing more annoying than paying for goods and services with legal tender. We prefer to use a rectangle of plastic that creates enough cognitive dissonance to enable us to forget the whole thing happened until the end of the month. Finally, a brave consumer has fired the first shot in the war against bigoted cash-only establishments in the Lower East Side. Reader @iambovine passes along this photo outside the bar Marshall Stack this afternoon. Good luck sleeping tonight, you casholes!

Aside from ATM fees, we can't really complain about bars or restaurants that only accept cash: they expedite the ordeal of getting a drink on crowded nights and deter many an impulse buy. And why pick on Marshall Stack? They might as well have roped off the entire Lower East Side.

Matt, who answered the phone at Marshall Stack, said he has "no idea" why someone would put the tape up. "We are a cash only establishment, but so are places all over the city." Asked why someone would do this, he replied, "I mean, why would anyone do anything? Whatever moves them." Congratulations to whoever spent time and money on this noble gesture: it sounds like the staff at Marshall Stack learned a valuable lesson today.
