SoHo cheese and meat institution Joe's Dairy closed its retail operation a year ago, leaving devotees of the shop's famed mozzarella to score their curds elsewhere. But while the shop shuttered, the cheese making went on behind the scenes, with the crew stretching out the luscious product to restaurants around the city. Luckily, the ever-observant Jeremiah Moss of Jeremiah's Vanishing New York spotted the cheese for sale just around the corner at M & O Market and Deli; and all was right with the world.

The shop, located in SoHo at 124 Thompson Street, carries both mozzarella products, fresh and smoked. An employee tells us it can be ordered by weight for $8.49 per pound (fresh) or $8.59 per pound (smoked). You can also have your cheese layered into a sandwich of your choosing; breads can be selected from the cabinet, filled with cheesy goodness and then tossed into the press for a little crisp and heat. Heads up: the deli is cash only. Moss notes this is the only place to score Joe's mozzarella, unless you happen to eat at one of the restaurants serviced by the company. Onward summer picnics!
