We’re not going to spend this space waxing poetic about the farewell to summer and how sad we all are to say goodbye. Folks tend to be so negative on Labor Day – it’s not like the summer immediately ends on the 4th of September. But if this “impending doomsday to summer” is enough to get people to party like they mean it, then we fully support the cause.
Now we know we are not alone out there, when we tell you that our preferred method of Labor Day celebration is good ol’ fashioned drinking games. Set up a rooftop beer pong or flip cup table and it’s almost like you can’t stop the fun. Sure we’re probably a little old for this, but it keeps our hand eye coordination sharp and our bodies in top drinking condition. But like any trained athlete knows, it’s important to mix up your routine so your muscles remain challenged, so this year we’re adding a few new games to the repertoire…
Beer Hockey (rules here)
What you’ll need: a quarter, 4 players, beer
Why you’ll like it: It’s a fast-paced, easy to learn game that requires no fancy equipment for hours of enjoyment.
It’s a mystery (rules):
What you’ll need: Lots of colorless shots (Vodka, Gin, Tequila, Sambuca...) and shots of water
Why you’ll like it: Watching your friends have to throw back shots of sambuca and pretend like it was water. Need we say more?
Sink the Chalupa (or as we like to call it, sinkers and floaters; rules)
What you’ll need: pint glass, shot glass, beer
Why you’ll like it: Those with a steady hand and working knowledge of Advanced Placement Physics will excel wildly in this game. Those who don’t will get drunk and have a pretty good time. Win. Win.
F*ck the Dealer (rules)
What you’ll need. Deck of cards and lots of beer
Why you’ll like it: It’s a little Las Vegas but the only thing you’ll end up losing is your sobriety, fast. Faster if you are the dealer.
Special thanks to Drinkinggamerules.com for supplying the rules and keeping us all in check. And an extended thanks to Solo cups, Pabst Blue Ribbon beer and Bounty Paper towels – each contributing to our Labor Day festivities in their own special way.
