We're entering outdoor food fest season and luckily the weather looks to be actually seasonable! Here's where to get your al fresco eats on this Saturday and Sunday.
This weekend one of the big ones kicks off its summer season: Smorgasburg and Brooklyn Fleareturn this weekend to their outdoor spots in Williamsburg, Brooklyn Bridge Park and Fort Greene. Lots of familiar faces are back for this year's Williamsburg iteration, but look out for newcomers including El Super, selling seafood tostadas; Bushwick's Dun-Well Doughnuts, selling their vegan treats; and handmade Uruguayan sausage and bread from Txorizeria. SmorgasBar also returns to East River State Park on Saturdays, with new cocktails including a Maple Mint Julep.
It's been postponed twice so far, but Northern Manhattan finally gets a little mobile food love this Saturday at the Harlem Food Truck Rally, which rolls onto Fredrick Douglas Boulevard between 117th and 118th from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dine on dishes from Wafels & Dinges, Gorilla Cheese, Luke's Lobster and Gothamist favorite Shorty's cheesesteaks (get the Italian fries!). Toum (Lebanese), Palenque (arepas), Nuchas, Hibachi Heaven (stir fry-type dishes) and Diso's (Italian sandwiches) are also slated to show up, plus some crafts for the kiddies.
Over in Queens the LIC Flea also starts back up Saturday and Sunday at the 46th Avenue and 5th Street lot in Long Island City. Street food favorites King of Falafel plus the always incredible Robicelli's crew will be on hand to fuel a day of shopping on the waterfront. Local restaurants also set up stands on the site, offering something a little different than the regular food vendor fare.
In Brooklyn, the food trucks are also motoring into Grand Army Plaza for their annual occupation the first and third Sundays of the month. The Brooklyn Food Truck Rally boasts a huge lineup this year including Kimchi Taco, Mamu Thai Noodle, Mexico Blvd and many, many more.
