Beer Authority, the massive new barsteraunt by the Port Authority was originally supposed to open in November, but "paper work" seems to have held it up (as it is wont to do when one opens a bar or a restaurant). But if the latest batch of pictures are any indication, it should be ready any second now—or, as a bartender at sibling pub Rattle 'n' Hum tells us "in a few weeks." Midtown workers (especially NYTimes employees on the other side of Eighth), this one is big enough you may actually be able to get past the tourists?

The bar's main room (owners say it will serve "high-end gastropub" fare—why not?) is on the space's second floor and includes a 63' wood bar with 66 taps for beers and cask ales. Though we won't get the beer menu until the joint opens, they are aiming to have nearly 150 beers on hand. And that's not all. In addition to the massive main room, the bar will also have "an all-weather rooftop beer garden" in the future (not sure which side of that billboard it will be on) and, "at the ground-floor entrance there will be a small stand-up bar area with a few stools and a growler station."

Plus, with all those subways and buses nearby, less chance of drinking and driving.
