With a soggy Friday dampening spirits, at least we have a fake food holiday to distract us from our weather misery. To celebrate National Doughnut Day, many of our fine doughnut purveyors—and chain restaurants—are offering gratis grub in the form of fried dough if you stop by their bakeries. While you likely won't get a free Cronut out of the deal, you can still stuff your face with sugar-soaked confectionaries at these generous bake shops:
- Doughnut Plant: One complimentary Classic Mini Cake Doughnut with all-natural Carnival Sprinkles with every purchase today, while supplies last. (379 Grand Street; 220 West 23rd Street)
- Dun Well Doughnuts: Get one delicious, vegan cake doughnut or doughnut hole free with the purchase of an espresso drink. (222 Montrose Avenue, Bushwick)
- Cinnamon Snail: Another awesome vegan spot giving away free grub, swing by the truck in midtown today for one free donut per person. (Park Avenue between 46th and 47th)
- Dough: We expected better from this Bed-Stuy bakery, who are only offering a chance to win four doughnuts a week for a year. Not even a free doughnut hole? Sigh. (448 Lafayette Avenue, Bedford-Stuyvesant)
- Dunkin Donuts: In addition to releasing their new Glazed Donut Breakfast Monstrosity today, the chain is also offering a free donut with the purchase of any beverage. (Multiple Locations)
- Krispy Kreme: You don't even have to buy a coffee to get a free doughnut of any variety from the glaze-heavy shop. There's only one outpost in Penn Station, but rumor has it they're giving out Hot Fresh glazed doughnuts outside the Fox Building on 48th and 6th. You might also catch an Eddie Money performance. (2 Penn Plaza-Amtrak Level; truck on 48th and 6th Avenue)
- Tim Hortons: If you like "Canadian" doughnuts, swing by one of the chain's locations for a free donut with any purchase. (Multiple Locations)
