We thought the rapture had come and gone already, but today comes another sign (literally) of impending doom, with word that the Gray's Papaya on 72nd Street and Amsterdam Avenue is raising their prices. And they're damning the man while doing it! At least according to their window sign:
"MURDER! We are getting killed by the galloping inflation in food costs. Unlike politicians we cannot raise the debt ceiling and are forced to raise our very reasonable prices. Please don't hate us," the sign reads. This isn't the first time the beloved hotdog chain and its Recession Special has been forced to bump prices, and indeed, the World Bank confirms that food is getting really gosh darn expensive these days.
A staffer we spoke to at the uptown Papaya told us he doesn't know what the new prices will be, and that the owner hasn't enacted any changes just yet, but he probably will by next month. Might we suggest that they take a page from the Greenwich Village Gray's and expand their repertoire to include dollar slices? [Via West Side Rag]
