There's no sweeter example of miniaturized capitalism than Girl Scout Cookies, where tenacious young saleswomen fuel their passion for fundraising with sugar, chocolate and a supervising parent or two. Cookie insanity officially kicked off on February 7th at Grand Central Terminal, and local Scouts will be focusing on "booth sales" until May. And a new app has been developed to help you track them down.
Online Cookie Locator is an easy-to-use site that tells you exactly what you need to know: just enter your zip code and you'll be able to seek out all the nearby locations where Scouts can be found. The cookie locator also tells you how long the girls will be available, which is usually until no later than 5 p.m., so plan accordingly.
Did you accidentally short out your laptop with cookie drool? No worries, there's a free app version of the locator as well, which has the added bonus of being able to tell you your "cookie personality!" "Brainy, complex, and mysterious" are apparently those who pine after Samoas.
If you feel like sharing the goodies, this year the Girl Scouts of Greater New York will be working with the USO of Metropolitan New York on the adorably named Operation Cookie, which works to distribute cookies to service personnel and veteran's communities in several different locations.
