Way over on the West Coast the Los Angeles Times is reporting that Times Square's ESPN Zone (which they refer to as an "upscale eatery") is calling it quits. Allegedly Disney is shutting it down, along with most other ESPN Zones around the country. No word on when the place will go dark, but we're surely they'll stay open through the World Cup until next week.
An ESPN spokesman told the paper, "Since their inception, the Zones have served sports fans very well. But from a pure business perspective, the economics have been challenging." And 1010Wins explains that "the closures occurred amid a wide-ranging review of Disney businesses."
Could be the de-Disneyfication of Times Square?
