Starting today, there's a new addition to the city's burrito brood courtesy of prolific restaurateur Stephen Starr, who's expanding his lively El Vez restaurant to include a new adjacent burrito shop. The 30-seat shop in Battery Park City follows the Chipotle model of DIY burritos, nachos and bowls with different kinds of rices, meats, cheeses and stuff. The gourmet fast food concept that's becoming a larger part of our culinary landscape also applies here, where the greens include kale, you can add crispy quinoa anywhere and Korean BBQ is an option for proteins.
The special beef pops up in one of their three Especiales burritos for folks who freak out with too many choices. The K-Town includes Korean BBQ beef and other touches like kimchi cabbage and grilled scallions. Add that to the latest burrito calorie salvo known as the Frito Pie Burrito, a gut buster with ground beef, rice, beens, green chili queso, salsas, sour cream...and Fritos.
