You may recall last month, when popular burgers-and-fried food truck Frites 'n' Meats exploded in a ball of fiery fury when it hit another car along the West Side Highway. The accident sent truck co-owner Mohamed Beydoun to the hospital with severe burns along his arms, and now Beydoun, who was known as "Moody" to his regular customers, is being arrested and charged with reckless endangerment.
As it turns out, the burger truck was carrying twice the legal amount of propane when it crashed into another car (four cans instead of two). Beydoun was also apparently driving with the stove on, another serious no-no. The crash left Moody in the hospital for weeks, though he is expected to make a full recovery and fortunately no one else was injured. Beydoun is due in court on June 6th, while his brothers and fellow co-owners work to relaunch their new truck later this summer.
Moody's brother and co-owner Hiassam said that when Frites 'N' Meats does return to the streets, which is tentatively scheduled for this August, the new truck will have more intense safety precautions. Stay updated on the truck's progress via their frequently-updated Twitter page, and prepare your stomach for more of those double-fried Belgian frites.
