If you aren't being relegated to sad pieces of cardboard bread this week, there is a whole of delicious food to be ingested out there in the world. Here's where to eat it:
On Monday, former Allison Eighteen executive chef Roxanne Spruance is hosting the second installation of her new pop-up dinner series at Tribeca eatery All Good Things. The six-course "Kingsley" tasting dinner includes seasonal locally-sourced dishes like Black Trumpet mushrooms with dashi, scallops, razor clams and lamb bacon. The $75-dinner comes paired with wine; you can make a reservation online.
There are two worthy events on Wednesday: first, at 6 p.m., Brooklyn Bazaar in Greenpoint is hosting a 5-hour celebration of Argentinian wine, in honor of National Malbec Day (!). The "Cambalache: One Night in Argentina" event, which will also run on Thursday, includes tastings of 120 Argentinian wines, in addition to eats from Sur Empanada and Cones and cocktails courtesy of Malbec House. Expect music, dancing and special Argentina-feting guests; tickets are $80-per-person, and can be purchased online.
Also on Wednesday, the Japan Society in Midtown is throwing an all-out matcha-centric event, complete with tastings of matcha glazed fish, matcha soba noodles, matcha smoothies, and matcha tea. The $18 event features a talk by Candice Kumai, an Iron Chef Judge, NY Times bestselling author and the Food Editor-at-Large at Shape magazine; it starts at 6:30 p.m., and tickets can be purchased online.
And on Thursday, boozers should head to the Whole Foods in Gowanus for their first "Beer Dinner" at the retailer's in-store bar (yes, they have an in-store bar), The Roof. The $50-per-person meal includes six courses paired with offerings from local brewery SingleCut Beersmiths. Dishes on tap this week include fried fish tacos, roasted lamb and matzo-meal latkes with goat cheese. The meal runs from 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Prospect Park Alliance; you can reserve a spot by emailing [email protected].
