The weekend is this close to gracing us with its presence, and that means it's time for another ethnic eating adventure. Last week, we suggested Sunset Park hole-in-the-wall Yunnan Flavor Snack. Today, the announcement of the Red Hook Vendors returning this weekend had us wondering where else we could get our grubby little fingers on some pupusas, which are scientifically proven to contain all that is right and good in this world. And then we remembered a distant afternoon of greasy glory at Bahia.

A Salvadorian restaurant in a less-trafficked part of Williamsburg, Bahia actually has a full menu with some classy-looking seafood entrees, but we pretty much only ever go for the pupusas, which, at a whopping $2 a pop, make for one of the cheapest, most satisfying snacks (or meals, if you eat two) we know. Bahia has a solid ten fillings to choose from, from the gut-busting revueltas (pork, refried beans and cheese) to the slightly more delicate queso con ayote (cheese and zucchini). All of them come with a side of curtido, a Salvadoran slaw made from pickled cabbage, onions, and carrots; and a cup of smooth tomato salsa. The pupusas are hot, messy, and entirely satisfying; finally, we recommend cleansing your palate with the restaurant's excellent homemade horchata ($2.50), which the owners source straight outta their Salvadoran hometown of Jiquillisco.
