It's still cold as hell, winter is still here forever and there's nothing we can do about any of it except descend into alcoholism and True Detective-induced madness. But there's still food! Here's where to find it this week:
On Monday, BLT Steak in Midtown is celebrating its 10th birthday with major deals at all its restaurants around town, like BLT Prime in Gramercy and BLT Bar & Grill in FiDi. Appetizers, sides, desserts and specialty cocktails will run at $3.03 apiece, and high-end entrees like rack of lamb, short ribs and Dover sole are slashed to $33.04 in honor of the anniversary. You can make a reservation by calling the restaurants directly.
Also on Monday, West Village eatery Empellón Taquería is offering a tasting of six new taco flavors they'll be adding to the menu soon. Taco fillings to try include deviled eggs with trout roe salsa, roasted carrots with salad and baby back ribs doused with a bacon and tamarind salsa. The $55-a-person price includes a margarita, and seating runs from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; you can reserve a table online or contact the eatery directly.
Head to SoHo on Tuesday for a Mardis Gras celebration at The Dutch. Festivities include a three-course, $75 prix-fixe menu with dishes like chicory-rubbed pork roast and NOLA-style beignets; specialty cocktails like a rum-heavy Hurricane and a blended Scotch and absinthe Morning Glory Fizz make appearances and Brooklyn-based funk group People's Champs will be on hand to lay down some beats. Reservations can be made by contacting the restaurant directly.
And on Thursday, Mable's Smokehouse in Williamsburg is hosting a special BBQ for Betty Breast Cancer Benefit, in memory of owner Jeff Lutonsky's mother, who died in 2007 after a long battle with the disease. From 11 a.m to 11 p.m., all proceeds from the day will go towards the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, with favorite menu items like pulled pork, brisket and barbecue ribs available.
