Though it has seen a heck of a dip in ridership this winter, the East River Ferry continues to make its daily trips across the tidal strait while its owners consider ways to lure and keep new riders. They've already added Brooklyn Roasting Company coffee in the mornings, so why not snacks and, maybe, a bar?

In an interview with MetroFocus, Billybey Ferry Company CEO Paul Goodman explains that the company is "looking at options for the afternoon. Beverages, snacks. We’re also looking at bars on board, but there are a lot of logistics." Sadly, he doesn't go into more detail than that.

We're sure there are lots of SLA-related logistics to adding a wet bar to the ferry, but considering how much we love buying tall boys on the Staten Island Ferry, we'd just like to go on the record saying we wholeheartedly endorse adding bars to the East River Ferry. Another thing we totally endorse? Goodman's plan to build shelters by the ferry piers to protect riders from the elements. Are we feeling a little over-endorsey today? You bet! Hell, send us something to endorse and we'll stamp it GOTHAMIST APPROVED. (While endorsement supplies last.)
