Oh, Bushwick, does Papa Brooklyn not love your kale and tofu scrambles? Last week was the tenth annual Dine-In Brooklyn event, a weeklong food fest featuring sweet deals at a few hundred restaurants around the borough. But it looks like Bushwick's dishes didn't make the cut—not a single restaurant in the neighborhood was on the list.
Local restauranteurs say they didn't even know registration for the event was underway. "I didn't hear anything about signing up for it or participating," Joshua Vazquez, who manages Bushwick bar Brooklyn Fireproof East, told DNAinfo. "I saw fliers for it in Williamsburg, and I thought, 'Why weren't we informed?" And the neighborhood's not exactly devoid of good dining establishments. "We have excellent restaurants," Julie Dent, the chairwoman of Bushwick Community Board 4, said. And naked waitresses!
The event was organized by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz's office, and they say that no Bushwick restaurants signed up. "We do everything possible to get the word out...but we also rely on word of mouth," spokesman Mark Zustovich said. "This year there were no Bushwick restaurants that signed up." The list also neglected to include restaurants in Canarsie and Flatbush, but, (surprise!) had plenty of venues in Williamsburg and Park Slope. We'll get 'em next year, Bushwick—but for now, let's be grateful the wait at Northeast Kingdom isn't even longer.
