Leske's Bakery, which has been operating out of Bay Ridge for 51 years (with a recent 18 month hiatus), is opening its second shop this month. On February 12th they'll open the doors to their new Park Slope location, located at 588 Fifth Avenue (taking over the Three Star Bakery storefront). And to celebrate their nearly-Valentine's Day opening, they're offering up Pwinkies—special homemade pink Twinkies—along with Black & Red cookies. The bakery's Black & Whites, which some call "Brooklyn's best," are different from the typical ones you'll see around—they don't use the hard fondant icing.
Also on their daily, sinful menu will be Scandinavian kringle, Wienerbröd/danish, vörtlimpa, bollas and old-style seven layer cookies, rye bread, Irish soda bread, almond croissants, butter cookies, cheese cake, black out cake, danish, breads, rolls, Hostess inspired Twinkies, and hard chocolate iced crème filled chocolate cupcakes.
If you drop by the Park Slope shop on opening day, you'll get a free Black & Red cookie, and a free coffee, tea or hot chocolate (in Bay Ridge, they'll keep their tradition of free coffee and tea for early birds who come by between 5 and 7 a.m., and in Park Slope the new tradition will be a free cookie for kids). You can pre-order Valentine's day sweets from either location by calling (718) 680-2323 or emailing [email protected].
