Perhaps tired of having the Shake Shack in Madison Square, the Tavern on the Green in Central Park, and the upcoming food vendors at Brooklyn Bridge Park getting all of the headlines, the High Line has announced plans to get chic eats of its own this year. To that end the Friends of the High Line has just put out a request for proposals [PDF] for the popular park with a goal of getting final proposals in by April 14.

And what are they looking for? basically the plan calls for applications for three concessions areas in sections 1 and 2 of the park. And, for those of you who like to booze in the green, one of those areas—the 30-40 seat Chelsea Market porch area—should allow the vendor to serve beer and wine. At the other two locations planned for food—there will be three food units in the Chelsea Market passage and another unit adjacent to the lawn above 22nd Street—alcohol will not be part of the equation. And FYI, the vendor at the Market Porch space will not be getting the liquor license—the FHL will be holding on to that, thankyouvermuch.

According to the FHL the food and beverage aspects of the park are expected to be "an important source of revenue" and they are hoping that whomever submits bids will "reinforce the unique character of the High Line" with offerings that, "like the plantings on the Line itself, should reflect seasonality." So we think its a safe bet that we won't be seeing another Shake Shack on the Line anytime soon. But we could see someone selling lobster rolls or some such. What food concessions would you like to see bidding?
