A few years back the Naga jolokia, which is nicknamed the Ghost Chili, was deemed the spiciest in the world by the Guinness Book of World Records. How spicy is the Ghost? "You can hallucinate from this chili," declares Upper West Sider Jeff Blaine, who is growing it in his apartment. Blaine tells the Daily News that he has enough to make 500 jars of hot sauce, which he plans to sell to anyone fearless enough to ride the snake to the fire lake. "We want to call it 'Killer Sauce' but we're afraid—if you're not used to this, it can be dangerous," boasts Blaine.
A sauce using Ghost Chili is 400 times spicier than Tabasco sauce, and seems practically addictive—Blaine admits that he won't go out to eat without taking some Naga jolokia with him. I cut a sliver and eat it with my food," he says. "I can still taste nonchili food, but I just like it that way." Clearly, this man needs an intervention before he burns through his entire supply. Ghost, ghost, pass, Blaine!
