Anthony Bourdain may be a husband and a father now but when it comes to filming his CNN show Parts Unknown, the former bad boy chef gets to relive his hard-partying days, albeit with a few more side effects. The travel host appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers last evening to chat about filming the most recent season of his show, which was also just renewed for another four seasons on the network. Bourdain talks about his love of Tokyo—"It's like living inside a pinball machine."—and filming in his father's home city of Lyon—"For pure food porn, it might be the porniest show we've done."
But it's filming in Russia where things get crazy according to Bourdain. "The drinking, I can't keep up with them," he explained to Meyers. "Every night…it's not a question of am I gonna to vomit after this meal it's, 'Will I make it out the door before I throw up all over myself.'" For his part, Meyers admits to being the "drunkest he's ever been on camera"—when filming an episode of Bourdain's The Getaway in Amsterdam with his brother Josh—and tries to hide it. "I just feel free to be drooling, stutteringly, pathetically drunk," Bourdain retorts. "It's become a sort of a signature."
The interview also touches on Bourdain's ideal last meal (Sukiyabashi Jiro in Tokyo), watching pay-per-view pornography in hotels—"I'm glad you cover all the porns," quips Meyers—and his insistence on letting his daughter eat like a normal kid, as much as that's possible with a chef dad and a butt kicking mom from Italy. "Foodies are annoying enough, do we really need child foodies?" Bourdain questions. "'I'm so proud of Hunter, she loves sushi!' That's child cruelty, they should take your kids away for stuff like that."
Oh Anthony, never, never change.
