I didn't think I was going to care about the new Godzilla movie, but after watching this new trailer for the forthcoming blockbuster, I have to admit I care, I care very deeply. Judging by what we see here, it's got just the right balance of mystery and mayhem, some epic special effects, and a solid cast that includes David Strathairn, Elizabeth Olsen, and Seinfeld guest star Bryan Cranston, who can be heard hyperventilating through the trailer like somebody stole all the money he had stashed in his crawl space or something. (Something like, say, a giant sea monster coming to KILL US ALL):
Note how the requisite Hans Zimmer-esque BRAAAMMM segues nicely into the incredible "Kyrie" section of Gyorgy Ligeti's Requiem, which was used to chilling effect in the moon monolith scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Steal from the best!
Godzilla will devour us on May 16th.
