It's the return of the fellowship of The Hobbit part II: below, check out the full trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the highly anticipated first part of Peter Jackson's two-part three-part Lord of the Rings prequel. Watch it while it's still up!
It's like it's 2003 all over again seeing all those familiar faces: Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen), Galadriel (Cate Blanchett), Elrond (Hugo Weaving) and best of all, lots of Gollum (Andy Serkis). And now that it's been expanded to three films over the next two years, you'll be getting plenty of time to reacquaint yourself with The Shire. Jackson recently explained why they made the relatively thin book (310 pages) into three films, and not two:
We were really pleased with the way the story was coming together, in particular, the strength of the characters and the cast who have brought them to life. All of which gave rise to a simple question: Do we take this chance to tell more of the tale? And the answer from our perspective as the filmmakers, and as fans, was an unreserved ‘yes.'
The second film in the trilogy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, will be released Dec. 13, 2013; the third installment, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, will hit theaters July 18, 2014. That gives you plenty of time to brush up on your Encyclopedia of Arda, to make sure you can tell the difference between Orcrist thе Goblin Ax and Sting.
