Ikea is set on infiltrating your lives a little more: The Swedish furniture retailer and Swedish meatball pusher is rolling out a line of all-in-one entertainment systems, complete with flatscreen TV, WiFi, Blu-Ray/DVD player, speakers, and USB and HDMI ports... and the one remote will work through the cabinets!
According to MobileMag, Ikea is using "TCL of China, the same manufacturer responsible for RCA products in the United States and Alcatel products in Europe," for the TVs. "Pricing for the base model starts at SEK 6,500 ($995) and it goes up from there. Initial launch is being planned this fall in Sweden, France, Italy, Poland, Spain, Denmark, Norway, and Portugal. Worldwide availability follows in spring 2013."
Considering that a 24" flat-screen TV costs a few hundred, and then you add on the other bells and whistles, plus the furniture to store it, this might be a hit with people who just want the electronics to be hidden! And Ikea's research said that many people want their cables to be hidden and hate lots of remotes.
There is additional cabinet space for other gadgets, like your Wii or XBox 360.
