The Bronx Zoo just shared a photograph and video of its new Grevy's zebra goal—her name is Terri and she was born earlier this year. Terri is the first zebra born at the zoo since 2003 and the zoo says, "She spends her time running around her exhibit but never strays too far from her mother, Tara, and her father, Jimbo. Zebra's stripes are brown at birth and gradually turn black as the animal matures." Aww.
According to the zoo's website, Grevy's zebras are the least social of all three types of zebras: "They may form temporary groups of 20 to 50 animals when migrating or during extreme environmental conditions, but adults don’t keep in touch with others in the herd. Lone stallions sometimes also keep territories (the largest of any known herbivore) for the purpose of mating." They can be found in Northern Kenya, but they are also critically endangered. The Wildlife Conservation Society, which runs the Bronx Zoo, has many programs to save animals in the wildlife around the world.
