The S.S. Hangover will be in Harlem Meer

Following up their takeover of the Domino Factory in Williamsburg with Kara Walker, Creative Time will bring their next big project outdoors, to Central Park. The project is called "Drifting in Daylight: Art in Central Park," and according to the T Magazine it will "feature 7 to 10 sculptural, social and interactive works commissioned by the Central Park Conservancy to celebrate its 35 years of stewardship of the island’s largest green space." Remember, Central Park looked like this in the 1980s, before the CPC took over:

Starting May 15th (and running through June 20th), "visitors will be able to play, lick and dance their way through the park." What in the Willy Wonka? One aspect of the takeover (which will be in the park's northern end) is “Sunset Soft Serve" from artist Spencer Finch, who will serve "free sunset-colored treats from a solar-powered ice-cream truck."

Another part of the multimedia installation will feature scenes from movies filmed in the park, but not on a big screen—artist David Levine will organize reenactments, and has already been test-running a scene from The Royal Tenenbaums.

Meanwhile, Harlem Meer will get a 1930s fishing boat, called the S.S. Hangover, courtesy of Ragnar Kjartansson:

There will be plenty more, as well, but don't expect a big Gates-sized centerpiece, this is all meant to be subtle. Doug Blonsky, the conservancy’s president, told T, "it is intended to celebrate the quiet of the park and the surprises one can find wandering its paths."
