Wayne Coyne recently told EW that the Flaming Lips 2002 album "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" will be hitting Broadway in the future. Not too unusual given the bands often colorful and outrageous stage shows. Not only will we see the album come to life, but Aaron Sorkin will be teaming up with band to make it a reality.
You know Sorkin as the creator of the West Wing and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (though he's no stranger to the stage, having recently directed The Farnsworth Invention at the La Jolla Playhouse):
''Maybe that means they'll need to build a stage with lots of hallways on it,'' joked Coyne of Sorkin's fondness for walking-and-talking characters. ''It will be a giant tube that's always moving!''
Also attached to the project is Des McAnuff (Jersey Boys, The Who's Tommy), who's a fan of the Yoshimi album. He pursued the idea and eventually convinced the band that the album could be turned into a musical, though he plans to include other Lips songs as well.
When can we expect to line up for tickets to this rock and roll extravaganza? Probably not for a few more years.
