Tonight the second subway series begins in Queens, and unless you're the mystery person holding $99,864,731.94 (give or take a few thousand by now) in a savings account, then you probably won't be attending. Ticket prices have soared, up about 83 percent since the Subway Series in May.
The average ticket for a game at Citi Field, either tonight or tomorrow night, is almost $200, according to The New York Post. And these game won't even feature history-chasing Derek Jeter, who is still out because of an injury.
The reason for the price surge? It most likely has to do with both the Yankees and the Mets playing well right now. The Yankees won again last night, and are now riding a season high five game winning streak. The Mets, though they lost last night, had won four in a row before that.
Should you be lucky enough to get a ticket to one of the games, don't expect the Yankees to be slugging it out of the ballpark like they do in the Bronx. The Wall Street Journal pointed out that since 2009, out of the 242 homers belted by the Yankees at Yankees Stadium, only 120 of them would be dingers at Citi Field.
