Senator Schumer has saved the Brooklyn Pool Parties! We just received a press release announcing the news that will surely put a smile on disaffected hipster's faces borough-wide.
With help from the Open Space Alliance, NYS Parks, Parks Commissioner Benepe and other elected officials, they announced that the JellyNYC Pool Parties are returning to the Williamsburg Waterfront for another year (thank goodness they never paved the East River so we can still enjoy a nice backdrop). Schumer says, "They are a big part of why summers in NYC... Summer in Brooklyn without the free JELLY Pool Parties simply would not have been the same and I am beyond thrilled to see that they will return in 2010. I can’t wait to ride my bike this summer to the East River State Park to rock out at these concerts once again.” Maybe Schumer can work his magic powers on the Bedford Ave bike lane next.
The duo who started it all, Jelly co-founders Alexander Kane and Sarah Hooper, say: “We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to all parties involved including OSA and NYS Parks, but especially to our great Senator Chuck Schumer, who went above and beyond to see the free shows continue for a fifth straight year." They're currently working on the 8 shows that will take place this summer.
