Instant Entertainment: Classic Rock Doc Edition

After seeing Hit So Hard last night, we're stagediving into rock docs today—of which there are plenty on Netflix Instant. Click through for some of our picks for classic rock docs.

Led Zeppelin: The Song Remains The Same (available on Netflix Instant) will take you back to Madison Square Garden in 1973. The footage was taken from several shows the band played there, at each one they tried to wear the same outfits as the previous night, so when editing the concert film, shots from any night could be used. The film premiered at New York City's Cinema I three years later, on October 20th, 1976.

When You're Strange is a documentary based on The Doors, of course, and also available to watch on Netflix Instant. The footage is from a five year span, 1966 to 1971, and aims to filter truth from myth, while revealing "new insight into Jim Morrison and his bandmates, and captures the essence of the iconic rock group and the era. Tom DiCillo's film pays tribute to the Doors and their music and to a generation's struggle for individuality and authenticity during an unstable and transformative epoch in America." Bonus: Johnny Depp narrates.
