Inside The Colossal New Whitney Museum

There are a lot of puddles in the Meatpacking District; if you look closely you can see museums in some of them.
One balcony extends around the south side of the museum.
A view of the insane balcony stairs on the East Side of the building.
One floor has these huge minimalist sculptures.
This is a famous Alexander Calder piece depicting a Circus. It's in a large glass vitrine on one of the gallery floors.
The museum offers many views of the Hudson River, as well as the garbage pier adjacent to where Barry Diller will one day build his park.
This is one of the staff rooms for storing and examining prints.
This is a conservation lab on the north side of the building. I spoke to some of the staff there, and they seemed very happy to have so much light in their work space.
A small cafe on the top floor of the museum.
A typical gallery view at the new Whitney.
One floor has two huge sky lounges: one facing the river, and another facing east.
A Chuck Close painting in one of the cavernous galleries.
A Cory Arcangel piece. This is one where he took everything out of a Super Mario Bros. Nintendo game except the clouds, which float by.
Another skylounge.
Some of the art is pretty edgy- this is a Keith Mayerson painting entitled "9-11."
Directly to the north of the building is one of the last meat packing plants in the now fairly misnamed Meatpacking District.
A large Barbara Kruger faces the stairs on one of the gallery floors.
The main stairwell leading up from the lobby has a cool hanging lightbulb sculpture.
The bathrooms don't have any art in them, but they are clean and spacious!
A lot of people are rumored to walk around naked at the Standard without closing their blinds. Watch out for that!
A Mary Hellmann piece, called "Sunset", made of colorful chairs in the largest outdoor space of the museum, facing the High Line.
Looking Southeast from the balconies.
Another gallery.
They've got two chickens on display. Art!
Danny Meyer's restaurant in the lobby, entitled "Untitled."
