Scoboco's Flickr

The FIGMENT art festival on Governors Island is undoubtedly the most creative and fun mini-golf course in town. All fourteen holes are created by artists; this year's theme is "Bugs and Features," where "man and bug can putt away in harmony." It opened over Memorial Day weekend and stays in operation through the end of September. There's no charge to play, and it's open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Governors Island; Ferry details.

Mini golf has finally returned to the island of Manhattan. The recently renovated Pier 25 in Tribeca just opened up a lovely 18 hole golf course over on the Hudson River. Shockingly, this is the cheapest one of the bunch! Just $5 for adults and $4 for children under 14. What more can we tell you? The website declares there will be ice cream and drinks available, and when you've bested your competitors on the links, you can move the fun over to the beach volleyball court.

North Moore Street and West Street

Located in Gateway National Recreation Area, the Brooklyn Golf Center is a little bit out there, but it's a great summertime location because of its proximity to the beaches of Fort Tilden and the grassy expanses of Floyd Bennett Field (which may or may not host an indie rock concert series this summer). The setting makes for a fun diversion during a picnic or day at the beach, and the course is pretty, with a large pool and fountains through most of 18 holes. It's $8 for adults and $5 for kids under 12, and just $4 to play again!

3200 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn; (718) 253-6816

Arthurohm's Flickr

The Randall's Island Golf Center is as gorgeous as it is sprawling. Boasting 36 holes, this immaculately landscaped course is a destination for any serious mini golfer. Adults cost $7, children under 12 get onto the course for $5. There are also batting cages, a beer garden, and a "family friendly" cafe on the premises. To get there, take the M35 bus or a shuttle bus that runs from the Upper East Side to the center. That costs $11 and runs along 3rd Avenue, call for details at (212) 427-5689

1 Randall's Island

Captainkidder's Flickr

Also pretty: The Flushing Meadows Golf Center. The classy 18-hole course stays open until midnight on the weekend, has waterfalls, and is conveniently located next to the national tennis center and a short walk from the 7 train stop at Willets Point. Fees are $8 for adults, $6.50 for children under 12.

100 Flushing Meadows-Corona Park
