Another sure sign we're heading into high summer? MoMA PS1 kicked off its weekly dance party Warm Up yesterday, and it was one of the best opening days in years.

The crowds were substantial, so it really felt like a party and there was plenty of excellent people-watching—and it didn't get grossly packed, at least not before 6:30 p.m. The music performers and DJs kept the dance floor moving throughout the afternoon. And the annual courtyard installation by the winner of the Young Architects Program, Escobedo Solíz Studio, included a full-on wading pool (or actual swimming pool for the little kids) in the large anteroom by the entrance.

The installation, called Weaving the Courtyard, also features a sandy "beach" area, a spider-webby colorful canopy strung across the entire space which may not provide much shade but does look pretty cool, and a room of misters which was not yet operational.

The great M. Wells set up shop in the wading pool room, selling lentil, falafel, or chicken bowls or pitas, as well as fruity, boozy drinks. Beer and cold-brewed coffee round out your beverage options.

Warm Up at MoMA PS1 runs from 3 to 9 p.m. every Saturday through August 27. Tickets are $25 at the door, and your MoMA membership will NOT get you in for free. Access to the art galleries are limited, presumably to the exhibitions that are more difficult to damage by drunk people.
