If it's bitterly cold and snow is on the way, then it must be time to step inside the warm and tropical Enid A. Haupt Conservatory at the New York Botanical Garden for the annual Orchid Show. This year's exhibition, Key West: Contemporary, is inspired by a Key West, Florida garden. (It's about 73 degrees in Key West right now!)
There are thousands of lush flowers amidst green garden walls, a pool with stepping stones and a water garden.
The New York Botanical Garden also has a number of programs, like a poetry reading, orchid classes and music events throughout the show. And there's also the popular Orchid Evenings, where $30 (or $20 for a member) gets you into the show, plus a complimentary cocktail and special dinner offers for a meal on Arthur Avenue. For instance, the cocktail on the March 15th Orchid Evening is a "Desert Sun," which "evokes the colors of an afternoon sunset and combines the rich berry flavors of Creme Yvette with the smoky character of mescal which are brightened by a splash of tart lime juice."
The Orchid show runs through April 21.
