According to a survey from Trojan, more New York City women have sex several times a week (23%), way more than women in L.A., Dallas, Miami or Chicago. Excellent: Our city's reputation as a hotbed for sin and carnal pleasures will not be undone by quality-of-life measures and a cleaner Times Square! Some other interesting facts: Only 22% say they orgasm during sex, NYC women are the safest in the country (93% use protection on the first sex date) and 68% of NYC ladies admit "they have had a sex partner whom they don't consider 'relationship material,' but whom they consider 'thrilling' anyway," versus 58% nationwide. However, for all the bravado, NYC women are less likely to "experiment," though Gothamist is curious what "experiment" means because "experiment" in Chicago could mean something pretty tame here (well, we're just saying).
Our theory is that Trojan's online survey targeted young New York women or women who came to New York thinking they would live the Samantha Jones-life. The NY Post asked a few women what they thought of the results, and the answers are hilarious:
- "I don't know who these women are. It's too time consuming - if I was having sex that often, I don't think I could go to work." Allison, a 20 year-old dancer who has sex, "hardly ever"
- "It's definitely not hard to believe that so many women are having so much sex - and not just with a boyfriend. I think a lot of them have sex buddies, because I do." Jessica, a 20 year-old NYU student, who has sex six or more times a week
- "It's a nice thing, and it's understandable. Sex is fun, as it should be. I believe that younger women and unmarried women are having the most sex." - Alix, a 45 year-old Women's Wear Daily staffer, who has sex "three times a week - if lucky
Trojan is trying to roll out some female health sex products, hence the study. It seems that NYU's Health Services will have to supply the dorms with those as well as the condoms.
