After a successful save the show campaign by fans involving sending tons of nuts to CBS, Jericho returns for a second season Tuesday night (10:00 p.m., WCBS 2), with the first of seven second season episodes. We should note that CBS only made a seven episode commitment to the show, in a move that seems more like hedging their bets instead of anything that has to do with the WGA strike.
If you don’t know the show, it is about a small Kansas town coping with a world where there have been nuclear attacks on the United States. Think of it as Lost meets The Day After since it has the underlying mystery of the former and the post apocalyptic feel of the latter.
So it is worth sampling, not only to see what all the nut sending fuss was about, but because it isn’t yet another moronic reality show.
Also of note this week:
Nova: Astrospies (Tuesday, 8:00 p.m., WNET 13; Thursday 8:00 p.m., WLIW 21) During the Cold War, an elite group of astronauts was trained for space based espionage. This is their story.
African American Lives 2 (Wednesday, 9:00 p.m., WNET 13) We mentioned this last week and it is definitely worth watching the final two episodes of this mini series that traces the roots of a group of selected African-Americans. If you missed the first two episodes, WLIW will air them Sunday the 17th at 10 p.m..
Celine Dion: That's Just the Woman in Me (Friday, 9:00 p.m., WCBS 2) We think that this concert special will contain more cheese than a helping of poutine, but as WNYC’s Soundcheck pointed out last month, she could be someone’s guilty displeasure. Plus, the networks have been scraping the bottom of the barrel of late and it is better than another fakeality show and this is almost like an 80s throwback. And of course who doesn't like cheese?
