Michael Douglas told Oprah today that his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones was "outed" in her struggle with bipolar II disorder. Zeta-Jones's story has been big news lately, landing the star on the cover of People and inspiring encouraging responses from everyone from ABC News to Jezebel, but Douglas's interview implies that not all of the attention is welcome.

"I must say, Catherine's being quite open about it because she was outed, you know," Douglas said. "She went to go get some help and some other patient probably in there said, 'Hey, you won't believe who's in here now.' And, so, once that happens, I think she felt [it] best to kind of get out the story." Check out the Oprah clip below, in which the recently cancer-free Douglas talks about his rough year, which also included being sued by his ex-wife and watching his adult son go to prison for pushing crystal meth.

Bipolar II disorder has been big in Hollywood lately, with 'tween star Demi Lovato recently revealing that she, too, suffers from the illness; and notoriously "bi-winning" Charlie Sheen organizing a bipolar-awareness walk through Toronto. Zeta-Jones was recently released from inpatient treatment for the disorder, and plans to start work on two upcoming films this week.
