Though the MTA hasn't released full details yet, subway ridership was up in 2010 (its second highest level ever). Not that the numbers in 2009 were too shabby, either. Though 2009 subway ridership was slightly down from 2008 it still boasted an annual ridership of 1,579,866,600. But what does that look like?

The MTA provides a long station-by-station breakdown of where all those riders entered, but for those of you who prefer a good old info-map, this should make you happy: graphic designer Vincent Meertens whipped up an interactive Javascript that lets you zoom through the New York subway map with the station data mapped out above. It's an enjoyable way to kill a few minutes on a holiday Monday. You can check out the full interactive version here.
